Sunlight For Health

March 11th, 2010

A lack of sunlight causes people to struggle to get up early in the morning. Some people find it quite difficult to get up in the morning anyway, but these people who find it hard to get out of bed nay not in fact just be lazy, these people are hard to get up early because of the lack of sunlight.

According to a recent study conducted by British researchers, adults now spend more time indoors. They are also rarely affected by the natural rays of the sun, especially in the morning. It makes the body’s biological clock disrupted and eventually trigger a feeling sleepy yet when night came, delaying sleep habits that led to fatigue and feel like getting the next day. These symptoms generally occur in adolescents, so researchers called it a ‘teenage night owl syndrome’.

“Lack of sunshine will make a person sleep better late, not getting enough sleep and finally feel lazy,” said Dr. Mariana Figueiro of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Lighting Research Center, New York as reported by the Telegraph, Friday (19/2/2010).

Figueiro also mentioned, less sunlight will make a person’s performance declined. He and his colleagues had done tests on two types of youth groups, ie groups that are often in the sun and the sun rarely. The results show that more teenagers much sun produces test scores better than the teens who seldom sun. “The sun in the morning is very important for the needs of one’s biological clock, especially teenagers,” said Figueiro.

The sunlight will help your body releases the hormone melatonin, the hormone that makes sleep. Lack of light means that the hormone melatonin will not be separated from the body that makes people so want to sleep on. This means that when the time is up in the morning as the body is forced to wake up that makes the body feel tired and heavy to move. Blue light with short wavelength is the best light to release the hormone melatonin. Type of light generally comes from sunlight in the morning.

“If someone missed the light in the morning it will be too late hormone melatonin is released and finally bedtime will also decline,” said Figueiro.

The study published in the Journal of Neuroendocrinology Letters suggest the importance of sunlight in the morning. Researchers also suggested that the design of the building are designed so that sunlight can enter the room while someone was in the room.
